Muslim Masculinity Project
The Muslim Masculinity Project (MMP) is a program of Malikah, which is a grassroots women's empowerment group.
MMP promotes Malikah's Healing Justice curriculum that engages men to redefine a positive, healthy Muslim masculinity. We gather men in person to discuss topics like male mental health, prophetic masculinity, gender, how men are raised, and violence against women.
To cultivate a space that is: safe, welcoming, judgment-free, confidential, inclusive (any Muslim-identifying man), listening-oriented, open to various perspectives, focused on personal growth and development.
MMP aims to cultivate a Muslim masculinity that is: healthy, positive, nurturing, restorative, healing, inclusive, and empowering.
MMP aims to actively ally with women in preventing gender-based violence.
Educate: We want to create healing and intimate spaces for men to build awareness of the realities of gender-based violence, in its many forms, and the negative impacts that patterns of misogyny have on people of all gender identifications.
Agitate/Activate: We want to create opportunities for critical reflection on internalized norms and men’s roles in systems of gender-based oppression.
Organize: We want participants to begin investing their time and effort into organizing, creating communities of responsible allies who work to dismantle oppressive systems and transform society.
How We Do It:
MMP uses Malikah's Healing Justice curriculum to build physical + digital spaces that are: safe, welcoming, judgement-free, confidential, inclusive (any Muslim-identifying man), open to various perspectives, and focused on personal growth and development.
