Building Solidarity Amongst South Asian x Black Communities

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Solidarity in Struggle: South Asians for Black Lives is a program of Malikah started by a group of Gen Z South Asian women in California. The program aims to dismantle anti-Blackness and Indophobia and calls on our communities to join the racial solidarity movement. Through our social media, monthly newsletters, workshops/events, we focus on education and awareness as an enabler to inspire change.

Oppressive systems like white supremacy, colorism, racism, and xenophobia work together to harm people of color, including South Asians. Our work is framed intentionally to tackle the complexities of anti-Blackness in South Asian communities, hold space for healing, and to activate South Asians to actively dismantle anti-Blackness.

MISSION AND VISION

Mission: Dismantle anti-Blackness and Indophobia through education and awareness.

Vision: Become the go-to destination of raising awareness, education, self-reflection, and healing that inspires solidarity between South Asian and Black communities.

OUR VALUES

Healing: Rooting in our histories and stories to work through our trauma.

Solidarity: Understanding our role in uprooting anti-Blackness and Indophobia within our communities.

Liberation: Fighting for our collective liberation with the awareness that none of us are free until Black people are.

PROGRAM GOALS

  • Raise awareness of anti-Blackness and Indophobia

  • Create space for South Asian and Black communities to explore their identity and heal from historical and current trauma.

  • Build a community of people ready, willing, and able to engage in inter-racial solidarity work.

HOW YOU CAN GET INVOLVED

ABOUT THE CREATORS

This project was formally started in December 2019, by a volunteer group of six Gen Z, South Asian women based in California. They came together through mutual friends to address anti-Blackness within their community.

In October 2021, the project transferred ownership to the BlindianProject management team.
